Well, as you might remember, a couple of days ago
gatogato made me this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4991022 which totally exceeded every single expectation I had.
Since I had a free day, I decided I had to make a little something in return.
She has a very fun comic that I've had the fortune to find, so this little set of pieces is based around it!
You can read the first pages here and the rest is in German, but worth it if you can understand it (heck, it's well worth it just for the vignettes), here and here!
All right then!
This is how I went about it. The first dance [0:00-1:39] was written before I found the second part, so I made it a lot lighter than what it should have been! It's basically on her going on and finding Baba Jaga and asking to be her apprentice, (dance two [1:40-2:39]) then the witch says yes! They happily go to pick mushrooms, find a unicorn, hug it to death and have a very filling dinner. Oh joy....
But wait! I have to change my instrument here. Going from a six course lute to a... guitar! [2:43-5:48]
Now, I decided to do this after seeing this, because it immediately reminded me of the famous piece by Mussorgsky (which by lucky chance is also called 'The Hut on Chicken Legs (i.e. Baba Jaga)', I was going to play it on the piano, but why such a drastic change of instrument family?
Here we get into the rage of the second set of pages of the comic, which are in German, so I'll summarize:
She wants someone dead... the reason she went to Baba Jaga was for that alone, because the easy way is never an option in fiction! So the witch asks her why, and we find out that her friend (or boyfriend... I'm not sure! My German is not very good) betrayed her! He has a new best friend (or girlfriend), Baba agrees to help her, but warns that there are consequences... And she shows her what happens to people who practice black magic! (one of my favourite parts is here, she shows her a photo and Sasha -the girl- goes 'you were black!?', I don't know... I'm easily amused by odd things like this!)... ahem, anyway, Jaga agrees to help her, tells her what they need... and that for this aid she will need to work with her for six months! A couple of ingredients later and voilà. Sasha of course had to do everything on her own (because whenever Baba Jaga casts a spell, she becomes older and uglier... so not much chance in her doing anything!). After this (still the same piece) she exorcises the spectres in the attic! How cool.
Finally, I switch back to my trusty lute (a seven coursed one in this case!) and the last dance is about her getting to hang her first witch's trophy on Baba Jaga's wall (the trophy being Dominique's head)! That and I like writing dances. In fact, I think the only reason is that I like writing dances. Anyway, enjoy!
Here's the pieces again for easy reference:
[0:00-1:39]The Descent, a Galiarde in the style of the XVIth century Italian masters.
[1:40-2:39]The Walk, a Passamezzo in the style of the same as before.
[2:39~2:43] Sound of pages turning and a change of instrument.
[2:43-5:48] Mussorgsky's Baba Jaga from the Pictures at an Exhibition. *this one is the one most of you fellows will like*
[5:48-5:53] Switching of instruments and other weird noises
[5:53-END] A Happy Honour, a 'jumping dance' (Saltarello) in the style of the XVth century Italians.
Enjoy!

ahahahahahhahaha, hahahahahaahaahaha aahahah ahhahahah
Oh wait, maniac laughter is not part of propper human communication.
This is the best and most original fanart I've ever gotten and most likley will ever get, I'm still floored that you actually composed big parts of this yourself and then even played it so perfectly. How is this even possible? How can you write music like this in a day? Thank you so much for this!

Well, we are talking about witches here! Nothing is out of bounds.
Ah, you flatter me too much! I'll go red in the face before too long. D=
Since we're both artists (well, you for sure, me, it's a little of a person by person definition), I don't think I really have to answer that! Let's just say that I started my musical studies when I was three. =P
Again, it was a pleasure; thank YOU for inspiring the music!!! =D

Also lol, just wait here for a week or two.. I really have to give you a lot back for this.. uhm.. I will think of something, for sure..
Also some random facts about the comic:
Sasha is gender neutral and I never settled on one gender, this is why hir name and the name of hir ex are gender ambiguous.. but I call Sasha "her" because most people seem to think that her behaviour is more female.
The second part of the comic, that one that was drawn in pencil plays six months after Sasha applied to Baba. She killed her boy/girlfriend and lost an eye and a tooth in the process (this is why there's an eyepatch).
Baba Jaga is really black. And 20 years old.

All right, let me get a pack of energy drinks and I'll wait patiently.
Oh, but you already did (and are doing) plenty! Anything more and I'll explode! D=
Oo, those are nice to know! For the first ten pages I thought she was a lad, then I read it again and thought... well, maybe it's a lass! I wasn't too sure, but on this strip the neutrality was lost (to me anyway)! As for the behaviour, I don't think it to be very female, but I'm probably just weird! Anyway, it's not important now, is it?
So that's why it was there! I knew she hung his/her ex-girl/boyfriend's head there. I thought it was just something for fun.
What, you mean she wasn't this man here!? Oh dear D=

These pieces you made really fit the comic! I was listening to it at the same time as reading it. I read all of it, even though I can't understand German =.=; Baba Jaga is really fun to say, and the comic is realllly spunk, the expressions on the characters are priceless!
You're also right about Mussorgsky part, I do like it. That part sounds evil (not evile) and fits the witch~

Hmm, oddly the song you mention as being the one 'we' will like is the one I like most. I thought I had more unusual (unpredictable!) tastes! Gah.. I guess I'm just cheesy now. There's nothing to do but accept it. At least your performance is rocking and supple. Love how the muted notes in the slow riff go.
Yessiree! I go to the forest every thirty first of October, and man, does it know how to dance!
Yes, it's something like that, though every story teller puts their own twist on it. My grandmother used to say that it was whenever she cast a spell or helped in any meaningful way. That's the beauty of folk tales! They're never static!!! =D

4:57 - Hello Gladiator soundtrack. XD Dissonant melodies and all.
*this one is the one most of you fellows will like* <- Following, reading the description. :D Damn, I'm a stereotype.
I don't even have to type anything more, cause you already know what I'm gonna say...
I'l do it anyways! Great performance!
