And they were better built too. Ride much nicer. Simpler. Easier to work on. More reliable. And these days most of the smog crap that named them 'malaise' in the first place can be deleted which really perks them up.
As long as they're not about to rust in half it's not a half bad idea to swap the modern disposable plastic garbage pile out for one. I'm gunnin' for something even older myself...tired of my 14 Challenger falling apart around me...but I wouldn't be opposed to a stickshift malibu wagon, especially if it had the 250 I6 under the hood. My area flat out dropped emissions testing entirely, too, so I can de-smog it to my heart's content.
