A fairly self explanatory title, farmers in Norskia are mostly the same as anywhere else, though where they work is different. The Norskian Farmers are the individuals in charge of growing the food stuffs that keep the empire alive, be it moss and mushrooms to grains and even tropical fruits from trees. Now I am sre people will ask "How can they grow stuff on a ice world" and the answer to that is three ways. I will go over each place things can be grown
#1: Caves, the first place that the early Norskians sheltered in and where many cities have cropped up around. In fact many Norskian's live part time underground in either natural cave systems or manmade ones, all carved out to keep the feeling of a cave but make it structurally sound enough to support buildings carved into the rock itself, or built in large clearing areas dug into the cave walls. here moss and mushrooms tend to grow in abundance as the sheltered and wet nature of the caves ensures cold snaps dont kill them. While the mushrooms are used like they are irl and the moss can be turned into bread, neither are super appetizing and often the food stuffs made from them are either emergency rations or rations given as punishment to soldiers or prisoners.
#2: Heat Vents are the boon of nearly every Norskian nation before the invention of steam technology. These naturally occurring heat vents are relatively common across the planet and create areas where snow recedes and crop production is viable as these vents are also often located in valleys or rocky out cliffs that help shield it from snowy winds. Every heat vent is utilized to the fullest by the Norskians, with the only kind of heat vents not used for farming being hot springs, which are used for relaxation and steam instead. However the plots of thawed earth around these heat vents, while decently sized, are only viable to be fully relied upon when a population is in the hundreds, not thousands or tens of thousands.
#3: Hothouses, the most common and effective form of growing stuff in Norskia. Hothouses are in essence large greenhouses, often the size of multiple football fields combined, in which there are many chambers with planters often stacked above each other on racks to produce every many of crop. These buildings are the lifeline of Norskia, walled off with heavily insulated steel with roofs of tinted glass often over a foot thick. The various chambers are essentially sections, divided from each other by more insulated walls, and in each room a different kind of crop is grown. This could mean a houthouse grows onions in one room, grain in another, pineapple in a third, and cucumbers in a fourt. These buildings are kept working by industrial steam heaters, each chamber having at least one, which keep each chamber at ideal temperature via the steam heaters being set to heat each chamber to the ideal temperature for growing the crop inside. This is why the walls of the chambers are insulated, so that a higher or lower temperature in one room wont ruined the production of a crop in the next room.
