OK so I did it again and ran across an obscure public-domain funny-animal character I like a lot. In this case it's Cagey Coyote, who appears in Barnyard Comics #9, cover date December 1946. This is drawn from the title panel of the story at https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=35099 page 29 and what appears to be his only appearance.

At least if he has another it isn't tagged at Comic Book Plus. Which is a shame because I liked him pretty much from the title panel and his whole story, meeting up with Bum Steer, goes very well. And I don't know but I think the scan at Comic Book Plus is missing the closing page.

Anyway I figure to mine Cagey Coyote for what the character's worth.
