Whenever Dr Claw and the agents of MAD have captured Penny Gadget snooping, they leave bound and gagged in some closet and think they have taken care of the problem. It usually takes about five seconds to escape and foil his schemes. A enterprising salesperson has decided to show has a products to sell. The demonstration is captured Penny Gadget, Atsuko, Anya, and Brdgit. It seems that they have not escaped yet.

Penny Gadget is the deuteragonist of Inspector Gadget and the tritagonist of Inspector Gadget, Gadget and the Gadgetinis, and Inspector Gadget 2. She is Gadget's niece and Brain's owner.

Penny usually helps Gadget with his missions, but it is Gadget who ends up getting all the credit in the end. For some reason, she doesn't seem annoyed by this.

Penny likes to help Gadget out with his missions, despite him always getting the credit afterwards.

In Inspector Gadget 2, Penny wants to be given a chance by her uncle to become a fellow detective and come with him on his missions, but he would never let her as she is too young. However, at the end of the film, she is awarded a medal by Gadget for being a junior detective.
Penny is Inspector Gadget's cute and tomboyishly beautiful niece and she secretly solves his cases for him. Penny loves her uncle very much and it is not explained if she has any other family members in the TV series, but Gadget seems to be the only family she has got.

Atsuko appeared in the episode "The Japanese Connection" where she proved herself to be Penny's Japanese counterpart. She had her own computer watch with a laser beam and her own arch foe, Iji Waruda-san. Who while not globally known like Dr. Claw was greatly feared in the Land of the Rising Sun. Just hearing his name said in public would make people in Tokyo flee. With Brain's assistance Atsuko and Penny got to work to foil an alliance between Dr. Claw and Waruda-san. Penny was captured after sneaking into Waruda-san's HQ and Atsuko and Brain had to break in and rescue her. With that done the trio switched the computer chip which was the basis for the villains partnership and when their teleporter exploded Claw and Waruda-san ended their alliance. Atsuko and Penny said goodbye and they went their separate ways to continue battling their foes secretly.

Anya: Penny met Anya in the episode "Prince of the Gypsies" when she & Brain travelled secretly to Romanovia to assist her uncle in recovering the Romanovian Royal Seal whose theft was being blamed on the local gypsies. Penny and Brain stowed away in a gypsy caravan and Penny told Brain her plans to uncover the real thief at which point Anya revealed that she was in the caravan watching them quietly and she liked what she'd heard. Anya assisted Penny in finding where the MAD Agents posing as gypsies had hidden the Royal Seal and Brain got it to her uncle. Once again Inspector Gadget solved a case with no idea what had happened behind the scenes. Brain, Penny and Anya had a good laugh when Chief Quimby said he didn't know how he'd done it and Gadget answered that sometimes he didn't know either.Dr. Claw tries to frame the gypsies of Romanovia for the theft of the Royal Seal of Romanovia. While Gadget investigathe gypsies (which results in being mistaken to be the prince of the gypsies), Penny and her new friend Anya try to find the real thief.

Bridgitt appeared in the episode, "Weekend At The Beach". She's a friend of Penny's but has no idea that Penny's the brains behind her uncle. Instead she thinks Penny spends too much time with her computers instead of having fun in the real world so she's glad to get Penny to the beach and won't let her waste her time playing with her wristwatch videogame (actually Penny's communications link to the Gadgetinis). Since Penny thinks everything's under control she's willing to enjoy the beach with Bridgit but before too long Penny's busy helping aliens escape capture and dissection.
