When people think of great migrations the usual candidates that are already in the history books. The Arctic Tern, the Atlantic Salmon, the Caribou traversing the Canadian tundra but I think the migration of the Red Balloon Whookits rank as on of the most wondrous.

Now Whookits are relatively large flightless birds, so to undertake a journey of any great distance is very challenging. Still every fall they float from their nesting grounds in the north to spend the winter in the more southern latitudes. Through driving winds, icy cold rain, scorching sun and the ever dreaded jet turbine engine these stoic birds follow the routes that their ancestors have taken for generations.

Now about now you maybe wondering "What and the hell is a Whookit?" Well a Whookit is an idea that sprung up at my day job between several of my coworkers. So the Whookit has become a very unofficial mascot at out store. This particular picture was done as part of our Holiday gift exchange. Instead of us getting cheap Secret Santa gifts each other we created little quick artistic items for each other that could be no larger than 5 inches by 5 inches. This was my gift.
