I mean, the kinda-charitable interpretation could be that after long years of service, they're letting him out to pasture, on the grounds that the hiker will get him long enough away that there's no way he can return in time to avoid having gone through withdrawal. Also, he's probably legitimately useful as a mana mage, once he's got through withdrawal - something the party sorely lacked last time and were just lucky enough to be bailed out.
Less charitable: it's a chance for him to go out and grab a bunch of fresh tasty memories, without too much of a loss if he doesn't return for whatever reason; or the Lord of Reeds doesn't want to have to deal with the downer of Jat dying there.

You know, I just realised something horrible. This situation with Jat isn't just a reminder of the trauma with Paradise, but also the trauma with SEAC. Jat just like Hiker as been left to dry, with no thought whatsoever from Paradise to actually help Jat later on. So not only is Jat being hit with a triple whammy of withdrawal, memory hole being "visible" again, and Paradise betraying them from their point of view. But so is hiker with "only" a double one, from the good hole memory thing and ALSO the terrible "betrayal from a trusted higher authority" parallel. No wonder they are both in bad time central right now.
