(UNFINISHED) Abandoned Book Cover Commission
It took me a long time to figure out what to do with this piece. I considered doing a YCH auction to try and make at least a little bit of money off of this, but I opted instead to just remove identifying information and post it as is. I did the character design work and ideated the composition, and since this commission ended up being totally unpaid, I don't think I have any obligation not to post it lol.
For anyone wanting more context, the journal I posted a bit ago pretty much sums up the situation, but the update is this - after telling this client I needed to prioritize paying clients who had locked in deadlines, they opted to begin insulting me and trying to bully me into finishing their piece immediately. The conversation didn't make any forward motion after this, and eventually I did what people had been telling me to do for ages. I refunded the little partial payment they'd given me back in October (the commission was started in July), and I moved on.
In short, this is a piece that I'm out $300 on, and it's 1000% my fault lol. I really held out hope on this one, but I was too passive and got walked over. :P

You were incredibly helpful in me being able to move on from this one! Dropping this client was so difficult, but the information you shared really helped solidify the decision for me. Thank you again for reaching out to Carl - I'm really looking forward to working with RPGames. It's been quite the change for me going from one of my worst client stories to what will probably be one of my best clients moving forward. <3
Thank you! And yeah, that really was where the line had to be drawn. The reluctance to pay me and the heaps of changes to this piece were all things I'd seen before and wasn't *that* upset about, good faith and all that, but once it turned into insults I knew there wouldn't be any productive way forward.
