Battle of the Bulge - Christopher Lennertz
Overture - Benjamin Frankel
Another December, another drawing dedicated to the 1944-1945 battle in the Ardennes, of soldiers sitting in the snow amid a dense forest of trees that hide them from the planes above as they await the next encounter with the enemy. In this case, it's the paratroopers from the different Allied nations that participated in the battle against the Communards, starting with Calvin Barnes of the US 24th Airborne Division, one of the units sent by Third Army commander Jacob Devers to relieve the defenders of Marche-en-Famenne (including the 506th Regiment) fighting against the advancing enemy. Next is a member of the Confederate 15th Airborne Division, a soldier who has a Tredegar Automatic Rifle, based off of the Winchester G30R and designed by David Marshall Williams, slung over his chest. Third is a British paratrooper, part of the 1st Airborne Division, fighting in the forests of southeastern Belgium. Towering over everyone is a Free French Ampelosaurus of the Groupe d'infanterie de l'air who droops his head down over the campfire since the warmth normally doesn't reach him. Then there is a Pliosaurus wosar of the Irish 1st Airborne Brigade, who were trained and equipped by both the Americans and the Germans, as noted by the FG42 over her chest. There is also a Dutch Plateosaurus whose head is obstructed by the Ampelosaurus' and finally a Fallschirmjager dragon, the latter two were part of hard fighting around Aachen, Luxembourg City, and Sankt Vith on the Communards' left flank. The dragon has a StG-44, one of the first assault rifles to be serviced, with no magazine.
