It`s statue of Kuzma Minin and Dmitri Pozharskiy. Built in 1818 in memory of 1612`s expelletion the forces of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth under the command of King Sigismund III of Poland from Moscow, thus putting an end to the Time of Troubles - "Smuta".

Ah, so the sculpture was built to commemorate when the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forces were driven out of Moscow by Kuzma and Dmitri's forces who I'd imagine counter-attacked the Poles and Lithuanian forces which drove them from the city.
