An adorable christmas piece did for me of Grump with his favorite being, Maybelle.

This is kind of based on a joke idea.

Grump's true form is a rather large eldritch entity that over time has taken residence in different realms and time periods. Hence why he appears in so many different canon universes and times, including WWII.
"Grump" is the form he's taken to using around creatures because it's more comfortable for said creatures, rather than the multi eyed, six limbed monster he actually is.

The idea here being that the wolf form is partly by Maybelle's design, something that'd be comforting/pleasant to her, and seeing as he'd taken a shine to her, he adopted it as what'd become his 'default' look.
Only in this reality; he didn't quite get the scale right... so for the first year or two; he was teddy sized :x Couldn't stop her putting the jumper on him.
