Every universe, or cosmos, is characterized by its own laws of physics, usually at least slightly different from any other. Most are uninhabitable at the level of basic physics - chemistry as we know it cannot occur, or is otherwise too radically different to easily send humans into. Other cosmoi are roughly akin to ours, but many more still fall under the label of Weirdspace, cosmoi where the laws governing the behavior of matter permit human cyberbrains and machinery to function and are habitable, yet are radically different in other ways. In this universe, gravity obeys different rules from the Einstein field equations, giving rise to a world populated by asteroidal floating islands and continents with lumpy, irregular gravity instead of planets.
