I've always had the impression The Sword is meant to be someone... something to be absolutely terrified over. You very much get that impression across. Feels like no matter who or what you are, if you are her target, she'll stop at nothing.

You got a correct impression there - she's definitely intended to represent an unstoppable force sent by a higher power, and most things in her world certainly aren't immovable objects.
In some regard, I'd say that qualifies for being terrifying to any normal person.
