How did I forget to upload this three years ago? Oh yeah, busy and then we got hit with a pandemic. Original sketch that was turned into our District's January 2020 Klondike Derby event patch. Our District Mascot, KeVy (for Kennebec Valley) Raccoon is all dressed and ready to take on the challenges of a Scout Winter Klondike Derby.
For the non-scouts here, patrols of 6 to 8 scouts load-up a dog sled with gear, are given a map and instructions and pull their sled of gear around to various competition stations. The event is themed after the Klondike Gold Rush. The stations are named for towns in the Yukon Territory and Alaska and the station judges are the "Town Mayor". The scouts are assigned a task to complete in each town and are awarded gold nuggets (usually gold spay-painted beads) based on how well they do with the task. The patrol with the most gold at the end of the event is the winner. In our district, we don't give trophies. We give out camping gear as prizes such as camp stoves, tables, water containers and so-on. First place patrol gets first pick and so on down to fifth place.
