The Meatfactory and the adventures of Nark Sakel [Cover]
Finally found the time to draw again...haven't touched a pen for a week now >.<
This will probably be the cover for the upcoming Nark Sakel story/comic/poem/song/Yogurt.
The final version will have a plain colored sky, probably in orange or red.
This is so back to the roots. Years ago when I discovered the magic world of markers I only drew large pictures packed with details and many characters. I really missed those asian roofs too. I suppose I should finally draw the little comic I wanted to do for years...would be a good practice for the ninja comic
Made with markers
Click for full detail...I went crazy again
funny fact: this is the probably the second time I ever drew Nark Sakel^^

Once again, your imagination, your flair for detail, are excellent, and leave me very curious about your story and its world. I would find it impossible to see a cover like this and to *not* want to look within.
Yet also once again, the *only* issue that troubles me is the way that detail overpowers composition and space.
As a general rule of thumb, you should be able to squint at any picture, any painting, and gain at least some impression of its basic composition, of its forms that recede into the background, of its shapes that advance into the foreground. If you squint and you cannot differentiate these things, then detail has most likely overwhelmed the composition and flattened the sense of space.
The key principle, here, is that anyone who looks at a picture should be able to understand its major details and composition at first glance; they should perceive everything else, all the fine little details, afterwards.
There are certain artists and cartoonists in love with detail who have never learned how to resolve this issue -- Michael Kaluta, for instance -- and in my opinion, their work suffers for it. Others -- Wally Wood comes to mind -- found their own ways to separate their pictures into foreground, middleground and background; in Wood's case, by dividing regions within the frame into almost pure shades of white, black, and grey.
The good news here is that learning to handle composition and space is much less challenging than learning how to draw; and it seems very clear to me that you can draw... with a vengeance!
In other words, I'm impressed with your skill, and I firmly believe that it can become even better.

thx for your comment ^-^
you know this isn't the first time I hear that, I mean that the detail overpowers composition in space. These were probably the weak points my pix had when I was only drawing such stuff.
I know that...but I felt the need to draw something like that again when I began working on this piece. The original idea of how it was supposed to look like seemed to be too simple and I decided to make a whole new background. That usually happens with most of my works..that's why they take ages to be finished >.<
pure black, grey and white would have been possible but I wanted to keep it completely black and white and use hatching for the grey.
I'm confident there's more to come soon. Every free second I have in school is spent on this story, I just have to translate it.
btw I saw the photo of your neighborhood you dropped in nailbunny's profile. Looks nice^^ Reminds me a lot of my home

The important thing is to keep working and to keep learning, to draw every page to the best of your ability, and then to move on. For me, one of the most interesting advantages of comic books is the opportunity they provide for watching a good artist improve over time.

Oh, I love the Gatineau Hills! I could never live happily in a place that was flat....

Very good job on it... the 4 area triangle compositio looks very good, the only thing that bother me is the flatness on some parts of the picture, rhe the closer to us objects should be drown stronger and the ones in the back lighter, that specially hits me on the buildings. And I really like how you pulled the perspective on the big walker thingie in the background. Anyways awesome work on the details x3
Your big art pieces are like puzzels ^__^ puzzels and gifts because i look at them once and see the picture, then i look closely and find many little bits and pieces that make the art even more favorable Xo
I like how you did the signature and date real small on the wrench ^__^
and all the litle monkey workers! i can see them
Keep up the good work my friend!you have already sucseeded in making me hate my own dark pictures XD
*thumbs up*
