I hope you feel better soon. Very similar description to what I envisioned in my head. The lone traveler is far from home, caught in a raging blizzard. Up ahead they can hear sleigh bells. Hope. Yet no matter how far they walk, they remain just out of reach, eventually giving way to the howling wind, and fading away. As the shakers come in, and their vision fades to black, they wonder: were there any sleigh bells to begin with, or was it all in their head?
