Until one of my vocal cords became paralyzed, I could do a pretty good Cajun accent myself even though I had never visited Louisiana any longer than it took me to drive across the state. But, at one time, I had about 10 or 15 Justin Wilson albums and I would listen to one a day until I understood all the nuances of the accent. I even fooled a woman from Lake Charles into thinking I was Cajun. That made my day.
I learned a long time ago that I had the ability to recognize accents and, equally interestingly, an ability to imitate accents. I had learned a general British accent by the time I was 10 and I learned a few more over the years until I heard Justin Wilson. Then, it became my passion to learn that accent. I can still do it but, because it takes so much breath for me to talk without an accent, I just don't try making the effort to talk in another accent. For a while, I was an amateur stage actor and I used my accent ability to land several nice roles.
