This is a plaster creche that I painted a number of years ago. My Dad and I bought the pieces as a Christmas gift for my mother back in the 1980's. I painted them, and then about ten years later, after I had done a number of ceramic casts, I repainted them with better paints and more drybrushing technique. The angel is not part of the original set, she's a ceramic piece I'd bought at a craft show, and she was the right size. There's also a bull that is just out of frame.

Those are professional grade, but then considering what you do for an "avocation," I'm not surprised. LOL My Mother did ceramics back in the 1950's including a complete creche (which I still have along with a few of her favorites) and dozens of other pieces she gave as Christmas and other presents. You'd have loved her. She was a Renaissance woman born in 1905 and never gave it up until she passed in 2005. I still miss her.
Merry Christmas to you and Scott.

The first paint job looked very flat. And some of the metallic paints I'd used had started to turn green. So I decided to redo it all. I kind of wish I'd thought to take a "before" picture, but that would require my being smart twenty-odd years ago.
I was also able to use acrylic satin ceramic sealer on the pieces to protect the paint and give it a nice sheen. The difference was marked. And this set's been in storage since my father died in 1999. Aside from a slightly musty smell when I opened the trunk, they were as good as the last time they'd seen the light of day.
