One way to keep buildings cool is to paint them white to reflect sunlight, but recent efforts by Purdue University engineers go further. Their radiative cooling paint exploits the phenomenon of the atmospheric window (a band of wavelengths where light is not absorbed by the atmosphere) to re-emit the residual heat into space.
