I wonder... Does anyone really know what love is? We can claim to have experienced it, but who was the person to associate the word with the feeling and give love a set definition?
Whatever the case, your character (who, I must say, is one of my absolute favorites), seems pretty disinterested and/or fed up with it. Love, for those who fail to experience it, feels painful when swirling around them. It's quite like hanging meat in front of a hungry dog. Everyone is hungry for affection in their own way, but one can come to resent it if they are deprived of it while the world around them is not.

Maybe it isn't so important to know the essence of love,
because most people just chase for the appearances of love.
They don't need love, they just need money, sex or something else except love.
If there's any one who really want love, he/she might found it in any way but chase for it.

True, most people, when they say they are in love, are not in love with a person, but with the material things the person has to offer. Like you said, money, sexual desires, etc...
However, in my eyes, everyone needs love. Even selfish, materialistic people need it. Love is what makes us human in a sense. Those who go without ever experiencing love become less than human; they are without remorse, empathy, or compassion, for they have never known them.
If I read the last line of your response correctly, I think we both agree that true love is the love you don't need to chase for; it chases you.
