The question is, would a great sword really be the best weapon for beast folk?

Interesting question) Anthropomorphs have natural devices for killing (claws, fangs, etc.). However, anthropomorphs have the ability to manufacture more effective weapons. Greatsword is an example of that. Also, I'm guessing it's an assault infantryman going ahead of the group and killing more protected enemies. Behind the assault group there may be fast, lightly armored wolves with only claws and fangs at their disposal.

Makes you think since they already have natural killing devices, what would pair well with them/increase the effect of these devices, besides good armor that we see here, but yeah any blade with better reach helps maybe if they wanted to use their claw/teeth more they'd come up with something to force the enemy closer like a whip, or man catcher?

Why not) However, claws are a good substitute for concealed weapons and they can be used for stealth kills. In a battle with well-protected opponents, it is possible to use weapons to immobilize the enemy. In this case, it is better to work in a group: one is engaged in immobilization, the second is engaged in killing the target. Also, if you think about it, then natural weapons can be modified with iron analogues, more destructive because of their weight and strength.

But what about Dragons? well more accurately what kind of enemies are they facing? The Great sword would be fine against zombies or most humanoids, but if they were stirges, these small bat like monsters from D&D, most weapons besides a net, or fireball, would be ineffective.

In my mind, a dragon is a huge creature with a wide wingspan. (like a Smaug, or dragon from Schrek ; 3) Dragons cannot be defeated with ordinary weapons. Yes, you can lead a dragon into a trap, and even hold it for a while, but it will be difficult to kill it. They have thick scales, deadly fangs and large wings, which gives them a good fighting action. In my opinion, only a dragon can kill a dragon. However, if there is magic in the fantasy world, then it can be viewed in a completely different way. With magic, humanoids have a chance to kill a dragon.

Well I'm more the mindset if it can bleed you can kill it, just takes all the force and then some of capturing it, making sure it can't fly and finishing it off. But dragons are just an example of a non humanoid enemy, what about slimes, or other smaller enemies?

First you need to figure out how to kill the creature. For humanoid creatures, it's simple, you just need to properly work with weapons. If the creature is non-humanoid, then immediately it is necessary to proceed from the features of the structure of their organism. Slimes are shapeless creatures. To kill them, you will have to limit them in preserving their shape, for example, by fire, because of which the slimes can melt.

Well now I want to see some adventurers using just torches to kill some Ooze ...

in the fantasy world, adventures with a torch is not the strangest thing yet :D. To me it sounds like an idea for art.
