Chapter 2 of my yinglet story series. Our heroine has bravely decided to take her first public steps in her new body. Will it be a mistake, or will it be the start of a new life?
In this chapter, she suffers an attack, confronts the problem of her names (dead and chosen), faces something she's been dreading, and finally decides on her new name. Also has to do a lot of talking, and Google Docs really, really likes "helpfully correcting" Yingspeak, so hopefully I didn't miss any zhis time. (I don't know if I made a mistake last time or if it got corrected without my noticing, but it gave me an idea for an intro for the second chapter, so I'm running with it. ^_^ )
Also changing the name of the series to "Modern Major Yinglet", 'cause I like the sound of it.
Based heavily on the comic Out of Placers, a work by

Seriously, it's awesome stuff, go read it.

I've definitely made the public a bit more accepting than actual Real Life, because otherwise the story would end pretty fast. The usual attitude is "What the heck is that? Not my problem, I'mma go." Wearing clothes (even just an oversized shirt) is a big help, at the very least it confuses people long enough because they don't know what "box" to put her in. ^_^;;
Thank you for the kind words. ^_^

Man, if I ever got transformed into my true fursona, you'd bet I'd be giving a lecture at the mention of "raccoon" or, even worse, "lemur." There's a certain animosity between me and that one species of lemur, especially ever since I found out the National Zoo opted for it instead of Arizona's state small mammal.
If it gives you any idea how hard it is to find a lot of the information I'd need to survive being at least part bassarisk, I recently found out from a children's book that ringtail musk smells like cat urine instead of the more acrid aroma skunks produce. It's really hard to find new information that isn't bundled in with other animals', let's put it that way.)

Part of Vayryn's problem is that this wasn't her fursona, she enjoyed the comic but didn't have a yinglet character of her own or anything. I'm not sure what Vayryn's actual fursona was (or even what mine is, I flip a lot between Princess, Flopsy, and Vayryn, and that's not even to count the 10 years I spent as a skunk, or the 5 years as a fox before that...) ^_^;;
In some ways, the relative obscurity of yinglets can be a plus and a minus. On the plus side, she can choose what to explain. On the minus side, people who already know or people who look it up might start expecting the stereotypes to apply to her too. Still, she can point to Kass and Matriarch Vizlet as counter-examples. #NotAllYinglets?

Well, she hid for a few days. And if she hadn't been forced to go out for food and if she hadn't gotten caught, maybe she'd have tried to hide longer. But that option got taken away from her, so the only option left is to own it. I mean, it's not like she can walk around and pass herself off as a human. ^_~
Unfortunately, I've been dealing with a seriously nasty flu that tore through our entire apartment here, so I've not been able to write more just yet. But hopefully soon. I really don't want to end up in a multi-month dry spell again. Thank you for the kind words. ^_^

Poor Vayryn, being shoved into the public light so quickly. She's got a lot of work ahead of her, trying to cobble together something that approximates a normal life.
Dr. Hart could use some lessons in tact. Then again, I can hardly blame him for being a bit out of his element with this patient... Still, really should've tried harder to be more tactful with the whole "veterinarian" drop. Even if he does make a good point about blind spots. ^_^
