Laeonids are a tenacious people. Quick-witted and fast-moving, their culture has grown from an assortment of squabbling nation-states to a rising power in the Alakon Crest Galaxy. Laeonid life is still heavily defined by their millions of years of upbringing upon their homeworld of Aerros. Working to survive the cold and the other natives of their home world has made them tough and hardy. Expert survivalists who can thrive in almost any circumstance. Generally, Laeonids prefer colder temperatures and do not handle heat well. The Fratyric Empire, better known to outsiders as simply the Laeonid Empire, or United Aerros Empire, is an extra-solar nation with over one hundred livable planets within its boarders, as well as dozens more airless terrestrial planets containing environmental stations, and massive Gas giants which are harvested for precious elements. Exoplanets such as Mhaedros and Aravaest have become large population centers in their own right as new Laeonids continue to be born on the worlds in addition to new Laeonid colonists immigrating from the home system over the past century.

Laeonids are considered adults at age sixteen, at which point they enter a state-sponsored training program that provides them with a mandated training program for at least two years' service. During this time, all Laeonids are considered enlisted personnel, and may be called upon by the Emperor (Annator) for military service. The Laeonid military is a large part of their culture and provides a sense of martial honor and warrior tradition amongst their people.

The most notable feature about the Laeonids is their powerful, aggressive genes that live in symbiosis with a unique form of viral organism native to Aerros. The 'Recombinant DNA Virus' (Henceforth referred to as RDV) is an immensely ancient and contagious viral life form that is hundreds of millions of years old. RDV is considered to have aided and the evolution of Aerros' ecology through the extremities of its resulting mutations. Eventually growing to become the dominant non-sentient organism on the planet. After infection, RDV becomes an integral part of the inhabitant's genetic structure, allowing them to spread their genetic material to other species, and reabsorb traits from the resulting gene-pool. Tracing back millions of years through the threads of gene-code that links apes to felines, mammals to amphibians and more, recombined with the modern gene-codes of today. Transforming its victims into the furred, feline species that are dominant on the homeworld today. Effectively a form of asexual reproduction via viral assimilation, completely overwriting their original genetic structure in the process until nothing remains but another Laeonid.
