I've always liked folklore and mythology. Only recently have I started looking deeper into Japanese mythology. One of the Yokai I liked reading about was Yuki-Onna, The Snow Woman.
These ghostly women would appear on dark, snowy nights and float around in the distance. They had skin the same color as the snow, with blue lips and piercing eyes. But you wouldn't ever want to get close to her. She liked to scare people to death just by looking at them, or would use cold wind to freeze someone solid. Sometimes they would do this to take someone's life force like a vampire might do, or sometimes she would just want to kill out of spite or vengeance. I wouldn't be very friendly either if I had to wander out in the snow for eternity.
So I decided to make a Yuki Onna in Kisekae myself. Especially after I watched the excellent Japanese horror movie "The Snow Woman" from 1968 last week for the first time.
So don't go outside very late at night while America is still going through this Polar Vortex storm at the moment...
