Mortis - was once the goddess of forests and seas. She is the one who filled them with life, and whom she patronized along with her husband Gallean. But one day, the god of the mountain dwellers, Wotan, killed Gallean by throwing him into the sun. Mortis hurried with all her might in an attempt to save her husband, but could not, and only singed her body herself, saving only bones and hatred for Wotan.
The pain and anger of the revenge-hungry Mortis caused the appearance of a new people on the lands of Nevendaar - the undead. The inhabitants of the distant southern state of sorcerers, Alkmaar, who were killed by the plague sent by Mortis, were the first to rise under her banner. Since that moment, the undead commanders have won many battles, and after each new fighters joined the ranks of the Hordes: recent opponents of the living dead, who took the side of the goddess of Death after their own death at the hands of her subjects.
And so, her revenge was accomplished, and having lost their goal, the legions of the dead fell where they stood, and Mortis left. But the dead were still waiting for their queen to order them.
Of course, her adventures could not but leave a trace in the world of Nevendaar, for many years, none of the peoples dared to mention her name, and the bards were afraid to sing in their poems what was happening at that time. And only the wind carried rumors and stories about the living dead, the obedient will of the goddess.
Along with this, a cult was born that worshiped Mortis, and served even before his death. They believe that with the gifts of Queen Mortis, they can achieve more than with other gods. To save more knowledge, to learn more new things, but the most important thing is to prolong one's life, and serve, in their opinion, a judicious and pragmatic goddess. The dead did not touch those who they did not need. They only carried out the will of Mortis, without arbitrariness. No robberies, no rapes. If it was easier to negotiate with money, they did it. And her cult helped them in this, preparing new templars for them, and opening those doors that the dead cannot open. For the main goal of their service and life is the service of Mortis.
