Made for Thegardeniacipher on IG!
This plush is made of minky, mochi minky and custom dyed minky. The accessories are made of mochi minky, custom dyed minky and cotton fabric, plus a zipper and batting. They stand at about 11 inches, 9 inches when sitting. The face is machine embroidered, as well as some of the detailing on the accessories and clothing. The torso is stuffed with polypellets for weight and the legs are floppy. The goggles and sleeping bag are removable.
What a project!
Starting on patterning. The base body was easy! The base body is a modified version of my regular human chibi pattern. The head and torso are about the same while the rump/leg area is the modified part. Since most of their base clothing is black, I decided to use black mochi minky to make the belts and boots stand out a little more. :)
The hair was oddly easy, I did need to add a piece or two to give it more volume after original pattern was made. Then came the accessories.
I never thought I’d make a sleeping bag for a plush! The sleeping bag went through a TON of revisions. But on the bright side i was able to work off of the original made. A lot of downsizing and trimming was done. It’s been YEARS since I attached a zipper to anything-- and I’m definitely rusty. To make matters more interesting, the inside of the sleeping bag is.... interesting. 😳 I finished the inside with a zigzag stitch, unfortunately it’s SUPER obvious how badly my machine skips when using the zigzag feature. I’m in the mentality that the hideous seams are sturdy and that they will rarely be seen. It’s tidy enough for a junk ton of threads to not be poking out.^^; Fray Check also helped immensely. It’s honestly a bit embarrassing but I think the outside makes up for the mess. :) Oh! I did also learn how to make my own bias tape for the head hole, and I think it also helps makes up for it all.
The middle(?) of the sleeping bag is lined with quilting batting to add the puffy look! The sleeping bag is just a sign to learn more about working with cotton fabrics, tbh.
Annnnd I think the goggles were last. I wasn’t exactly sure how to make a more rigid shape with minky, so the insides of the goggles are lined with stiff but lightweight interfacing. The band is made with stretchy mochi minky to make it a bit easier to attach and remove.
That’s all I believe! I could go on, but I think this is enough for now!
One small realization: when I was looking at the references for this character. I knew I saw them somewhere... I knew they were from MHA, but I wasn’t familiar with the series at all. Until I realized I made Eri a year or two back and I saw them in some of the references I picked out with Eri! Just a little tidbit that I thought was kinda cute? ^^;<3 Faves, watches and comments are greatly appreciated! <3
