Zingers, to me, are an essential part of the DKC world and one of the missteps in the Wii/Wii U titles was their removal. They may not be as important as the Kremlings but I'd argue they're just as iconic and serve as just another part of that world that helps to flesh it out. I think a lot of this comes from the fact that they look so distinct while, aside from the Kremlings, most enemies in DKC look fairly generic; THAT and given their usage in the first two games, these little bastards have been cemented into my mind as some of the worst obstacles in a video game series, so I can't NOT forget them!

Agreed; I'm actually not opposed to not having the Kremlings around-(not there outright removal, but letting someone else have the spotlight here and there is fine)-but the replacements were very lackluster. Maybe it's a bit too much to expect story wise from DKC but maybe if the Snowmads were rival pirates to the Kremlings and with them taken out, now they're back to cause chaos, granted their boss would have to be more then just "Walrus K. Rool." I also wanted to like the Tikis from Returns more, I think if they had been minor enemies in prior DKC games that could have been built up in the Kremlings' absence could have also worked. As is the, the Tikis I think make decent minor enemies, as DKC really lacks a lot of memorable enemies outside of the Kremlings.
Part of me wonders if the main villain from DKCTF was going to be K. Rool but the idea got veto'd, but not in time for them to not make his boss fight literally be a remix of the original three K. Rool battles from Rare's DKC's. Otherwise I actually quite dig the Snomads, but they're clearly meant to harken back to the DKC2 pirate kremlings and slightly beg the question why they didn't just have at least K. Rool come back sooner than in Smash.
