Samuel Lopez arrived at Furmula One with a background in IndyFur (IndyCar in this reality we all live in) racing, having made his debut there in 2018 and proved to be quite the talented driver with a victory in just his second professional start. In 2020, he managed to finish second in the points standings, and then he received a contract to drive for Australian-based OziRace in Furmula One for 2021. Although he struggled for much of his rookie season, having finished 15th in standings, he earned his first victory in his Furmula One career on July 25th, 2021 at the German GP, and then a second-place finish at the Chinese GP later that September.

But his second season for OziRace turned out to be not only his most successful thus far but he was on top of the standings for much of the season. He set the tone with a victory at the first race of the season, in OziRace's home country of Australia, and then earned a podium finish for another six times, including two victories in a row at Austria and Great Britain. Although his rivals Cassandra Ouellet and Petri Saukkonen nipped at his heels from time to time, Lopez rarely dipped in performance, and his consistency earned him the championship, clinching it at the Mexico GP even with one more race to go in the season.
