epic artist commentary lore ahoy:
This was a huge learning curve for me. Colors are not my forte! I’m a traditional artist that likes to work with pens. My favorite part is coming up with how to a stylize a character while keeping the integrity of how they’re drawn in the book. Then of course, putting ink on that bad boy and calling it done!
COLORS HOWEVER, OH BOY. I think I did a good job, I wanted to use grimy tones and “weirder” skin tones, like leaning more on the bluer/greener scale but I could only manage it with one or two characters before everyone just looked like corpuses. The books are gritty, dirty, and dreary so I really want to use weird colors.
However, Colors are TRICKY. They don’t work how I want them to! I’m sure you’ve seen the riddle below. When colors are super desaturated, it can become hard to tell what colors actually what. Sometimes greens look more blue or the dark red looks too bright. Someone said “dont color it by what color it should be, color by how you want it to look”. The majority of time I spend working on these digital pictures goes toward me playing with the hue/saturation/brightness sliders
