Autism Spectrum Disorder, most certainly. I'd say more on the milder end, likely somewhere around Aspergers. He's functional, and exceptionally gifted, but socially inept, outside of the few people he knows really well, such as his family.

Having a parent who's a teacher with a child psychology major certainly helps, yeah. Plus it also helps that I know a few people who definitely qualify as Aspergers. :P
