Experimenting with different character expressions, poses, and dynamics. These two (including the bumblebee in the top right sketch) are central characters that I'm still in the middle of developing. All you need to know for the time being is that they've got one hell of a rocky relationship. This, however, is to be expected; after all, being military officers from opposing sides of a decade-long war means fraternizing with the enemy is a dangerous game with potentially fatal consequences.

Thank you so much! It's definitely a balancing act between appearing too cartoony (the bottom left heart eyes are probably the most I'm willing to push it from a stylistic perspective) while still attempting to convey a dynamic range of expressions. Arthropods almost always present some sort of artistic challenge when it comes to the face, so I'm really happy that this style allows for some clarity while remaining relatively true to the real-life aspects of a wasp's face.
If this is star crossed lovers territory then inject that straight into my veins.
Your insect anthro style is really interesting! It’s sorta soft body/normal human body… but with these slight alterations that bring out the arthropod side. Heads are gorgeous as usual.
Good to hear these guys are central - intriguing to see how they develop!

Thank you! You always leave such thoughtful comments, I really do appreciate them.
I'm definitely still puzzling out how much I want to anthropomorphize their bodies - there was a time when I wanted to give them two pairs of arms (I'm still debating whether or not to implement that design for arachnids, actually), but I think the most I'm willing to do for insects is segment parts of the body in ways that make them appear more chitinous, including the way that they're colored/shaded. It'll probably end up looking sort of smooth/shiny, but not overly so.
Hopefully I'll have to work on these guys sooner rather than later, since out of all the arthropods, wasps (and hymenopterans as a whole) are probably my favorite to depict.

Hey always glad to give my input ;D
Two arms is a difficult choice to make! Honestly I lean towards them a little bit (I really do love embracing the kinda 'alien' factor with insects - it's a real fun change of pace) but it's also a bit of work to do and has a lot of little details and shenanigans involved with it. It's in a similar situation to the extended 'abdomen' for insects protruding out from the waist where it's a fun detail to include but also needs the viewer to now design clothing and all kinds of things around it. Fully agree with the segment/chitin part - super fun part of insectoid appearances.
Can't get enough of hymenoptera's over here either! When I found out ants were part of the wasp/bee family I was pleasantly surprised!
