Jay didn't know what to expect when he was diagnosed as being in the
early stages of extraspecial metamorphosis, a.k.a. "demi-human
syndrome," and it came as an even greater shock when he learned
firsthand that it wasn't just your *species* that could change. The
specialist he'd been seeing told him about the local harpy flock as
soon as it was clear he was becoming one, but several weeks of
constant changes and awkward adjustments left her reluctant to show
her new face to *anyone,* let alone people who were used to this form
and its challenges.

She eventually relented, but that presented its own challenges. The
others might be willing to welcome her into their midst, but she
wasn't sure *she* was prepared to fit in with the rest of them; and
some of the other harpies were all too ready to "help" her make the
most of her new appearance, whether or not she was ready for that
herself. Still, she told herself, Phoebe and the others *meant* well,
didn't they...?
