While there are harsh slavemasters in Torg, many tales of grueling labor and sadistic masters are embellished. The Torgonauts are not stupid, they understand slaves cannot produce regularly if they are constantly being terrorized or massacred. In fact many slaves in Torg live normal lives almost indistinguishable lives from peasants in other lands. In fact slaves with specialized crafts are highly sought after and coveted. Several times in a year lower-level Torgonaut clan enforcers are dispatched to collect what they're owed by their slaves, deposit raw resources for their craft-slaves and instructed what to requisition for the next collection time.

Specialized slaves also enjoy basic legal rights. Theft and murder of skilled slaves are not tolerated and all but the clan hegemons can expect swift retribution for harming their slaves.
