Willy has a point. Homosexuality, divorce, and masturbation are (or were at the time) considered mortal sins for Catholics. But despite that, divorce fell by the wayside as a stigma, while being gay stayed "bad" for a lot longer. And as for masturbation, well, Cody doesn't seem to have had an issue with it...
I think Mr. Green's gonna agree with him on that, tbh. Unless Cody's mother is actually dead in which case...

I was indoctrinated in the Catholic 'Faith' from K-8th Grade. Not willingly, I assure you! The moment I began to really think about the ideology, and began asking very honest but pointed questions, was the moment my fight against it began (roughly,,, 1st Grade). 'Original Sin' was and will always be the single greatest sticking point, and why I will never sell whatever my Soul may be, to Catholicism/most other Xtian Paths.
Politics itself is a very dangerous place for any story/comic to tread.
Religion? YIKES!
I'm loving this aspect of this story, because it isn't dancing around it, but hitting it head on! I just hope everyone involved comes through the other side still loving/respecting each other (which by itself would prove a miracle. We shall see?!)
Also, I just can't help but grin at Willy's forwardness/boldness/foolishness(?)! I've known many people of 'Shorter stature' who have this attitude/trait, and I'm not going to cast them any shade for it!
The contrast between him and Cody are just so darn endearing to me!

I really do love Willy's brashness here and its an aspect of his personality I do respect. Especially since he takes alot of the licks that go along with it.
One thing ive liked is that willy for the most part isn't necessarily out to pick fights but if you decide to tread one toe into criticizing the homosexuality part he'll dish it out ten fold. He's blunt and abrasive and tactless and that comes with a lifetime of needing to defend that aspect of himself. I don't feel bad for Cody's dad here, he stepped right into that when he could of just said nothin. It's worth noting that Willy probably is a bit of a biblical scholar as a result of the judgement as well, to at least shut people down before they get too preachy.
Cody fortunately was blessed in so many ways he's had the grace to be mostly kind in comparison. But because he was allowed to keep that tender nature growing up he's always gonna be more emotionally aware. They are a nice contrast of one another.
