I've been playing Diablo for a long time and when I saw Death in the Puss in Boots The Last Wish trailer, the first time I saw him, I thought of Malthael, the angel of death who is the main antagonist in Diablo 3 "Reaper of Souls" expansion. Interestingly, they both use the same weapon and are associated with death. Such a good easter egg for Diablo gamers.
