I was out on shoot, over the weekend, and really hadn't been anywhere near a good location for a mudshoot, not to mention the frigid weather, and now the snow we just got. (Brrrrrrr) But as I was driving past a massive section of tidal mud flat I saw something WAY out in the distance moving, It was far enough out that I couldn't make it out with the naked eye, something not birdlike moving in the distance, on the surface of the mudflats. WTF??? Well I brought out one of my cameras with the best zoom, zoomed in all the way with the optical, and even had to stretch into the digital zoom (thus the crappy picture) and I could finally make out just what it was. It was a Raccoon! Probably going for clams n' muscles or something, but he was out there, I mean WAY out there on the flats. Just thought I'd pop in and share it with ya.

This mud isn't all too squishy and he probably doesn't weigh too much enough to cause a disruption to the surface much. Their paws are somewhat webbed too so that could help. Saw a vid of someone crossing a potiential quicksand area using modified snowshoes and they did great at crossing the muck. Likely similar effect.
Heeeh, I've seen coons in muddy places before! Did an internship at the USGS in the Everglades National Park last year, last day of my project in the mangroves there, we came across the footprints of a coon having walked right across the test-area for my project!
