It's not a good sign when you startstruggling to put on your pants in the morning, though you can explain it away with it getting shrunk in the wash.
It's a really bad sign when you pop the button of your shirt after finishing a meal, but that could also be explained.
You can even explain away how hard it's getting to see your feet when you look down, or how you look wider in the mirror than usual.
There is no way, however, to explain away the fact you've gotten too fat for a measuring tape to get around you.
