I felt like drawing the happiest dragon flight picture I could possibly come up with, and this was it! This is what I imagine flying through a sunset as a dragon may feel like. This pose was very challenging, but I think I got it about right.

That is EXACTLY the vibe I was going for. I really wanted to get the happy free emotion to be as strong as I possibly could in this picture, as it's a huge part of what I love so much about dragons.
The pose was very hard, and I drew the wings several times before I was happy with them. I ended up taking reference from pidgeons doing flips and watching how they pose their wings. They do this thing where they flap once, really hard, then go into the flip, and then about halfway through their flip they bring their wings up and back behind themself like I have mine posed here. If a pidgeon can do it, surely a glorious dragon can!

One of the greatest joys I can imagine a dragon would experience would be the total, raw freedom of flight. It's by far one of my favorite things to think about, and one of my favorite topics to express through art as I want to evoke such a powerful emotion in other people while portraying the beauty of dragons.
