After a very long wait, and what seemed like an even long crafting period, the giant 40-dollar raffle prize for 
patthecat is finally complete. He wanted me to make his boyfriend,

Also, I have attained a new camera, though I'm not sure if it's any better than my last one. I'm also not sure about whether I've gone and broken it already, it makes a strange whirring noise for awhile before moving the lens. And just today I noticed a permanent darkness in the lower right-hand corner.

That sounds like something that you might want to take it in for. You might have got a lemon. (The other possibility that springs to mind - if it's a DSLR - is that it's a full-frame camera but you've got it using a lens that's for a one-third system, and so it doesn't have enough light to illuminate the sensor. But I suspect that's not it.)
