"Goodbye, old friend..."
---
This piece does not reflect on anything going on in my life, I just suddenly had inspiration one night to draw this particular character and the end result turned out exactly the way I wanted it to. After experimenting a lot on this image, I learned a lot from this piece in terms of rain effects! Yee~
Sebastian is an Alp, a European mythological creature that can shapeshift into several forms. In this piece, he's in his dog form (German Shepherd <3). I've had this character since 2008, which was also my grade 12 History year, so chances are that influenced my creation of this character.

Now that I've looked up the image that you're referring to, I won't deny the fact that the two images look very similar. I will say that I had absolutely no intention of making my character look like Renard's character because Sebastian has always looked the way he has since way back when I made him in 2008. The hat is different, his eyes are different, his markings are different, he has hair, and has none of the other accessories that Jackal wears. The similarities I see are the colours of the uniform, both are profile views of the characters, and the fact that both he and Jackal are brown.
I love the little "patter" effects, or little splashes the raindrops are making against his clothing throughout. Impressive little detail and well done, I have to say! And, if I'm not mistaken...as I was looking at the faint smoke trail off of the end of his cigarette is that a little bit of a raindrop splash on top of the cigarette as well? If so, cool!
Otherwise, love the darker markings on his tail and back of his neck! I like the design on his hat as well. Uniforms are pretty awesome, especially military-style ones!

Yes, yes, that is a little patter effect on his cigarette. ^^ It probably would look pretty silly if I had forgotten the little patters, to be honest. I'm glad to see someone appreciates all the little details I put into images. <3 I love how little details like that throughout an image can add just that much more to a picture! =]
Thank you as always for your wonderful comments, Psi!

Well that was nice of FA, deleting my first long message that I typed out. Meh.
Anyway to keep it short and far less comprehensive, this piece in particular resonates with me in intangible ways which I don't understand, but it's kind of the cherry on top that his name is Sebastian. All the effects and details are soothingly woven together, and the pose and rigidity of the salute is excellent [noting the tie and expression here). He feels like an old friend, staring off into space and disregarding the world around him. It feels so heavy, not because of the environ drawn but due to pretty much the character alone, which is unusual. Take away the rain and gray tones and I feel you'd still get the same deep, heavy feeling. I just…really enjoy this one.

Aww! I hate when you write something super long and then the site eats your post. TT___TT That's why now I've gotten into the habit of copying everything I write before I post it just in case that happens. It always seems to happen the few times that I don't copy and paste that the site eats my post. D:
I really, really appreciate the long, descriptive compliments like this. It really makes creating artwork worthwhile to receive comments where someone feels connected to the piece in some way, shape, or form. Thank you, Bass. =]
