I'm pretty sure that since no-one told him to remove it, he just thought it had to stay on. Slayer sure is a joker, running that long of a prank on Drift

I'm guessing Drift has been living like this now over winter through to spring, maybe through a second winter? So 6 to 12 months.
I think this is a testament to just how epically bad his sense of direction is, considering his concealed cavern is less than a day's actual walking distance from his enclave.
