So I've had this idea in my head for ages now. The idea of a reimagining of the character of Sonic. No gimmicky tricks, no needless "friends" (I'm looking at you Big and Rouge...And Cream...And Blaze...And...), and a time when Eggman was still called Robotnik.
Taking things back to a simplier format: the fastest blue hedgehog in the world, a hero, and his battle to rid his world of an evil (probably crazy) scientist.
I call it Sonic Burst. Because I'm tired and that's the first thing that popped into my head. :P
The entire concept would revolve around speed, and the things one could do with complete control of it. That's right, Sonic wouldn't be limited to 700+ mph (or whatever it is exactly). The reason he doesn't go faster than that on average? Too hard to control where you're going. Not that he's limited to that speed at all, like current iterations seem to be. I like to think this version would be if he completely cut loose, and what might be possible with that.
Robotnik would have his hands full at the very least.
Course, there'd be a downside too: speed would be like an addiction to him. He'd only feel alive, only free, when he was going fast. So he'd always be diving headlong into the next challenge, the next situation, trying to test his limits.
I'd really like to dive into the idea more, but between my other projects (webcomic included), not sure I'll get to it this year. :\
Fun fact: drawn while listening to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbFhVQKcJa8 on repeat. No idea why.

Hmm that and make Robotnik an actual villian, as he was back in the days of that cartoon show based off the archie comics. I mean his drive was very simple to the point... and just oozed with evil... willing to enslave all that is organic and make all into his mechanical slaves, which with what the story writers were limited with in the game, actually did with a cartoon series.
Now on the game side of things, multiple things need to be done in my opinion... "1" take the game from the sonic team, clearly all they care about is money, not so much games, art, style, "2" quit settling for mediocrity, "3" quit spamming a sonic game every 6 months out to the public, "4" This constant yammering that sonic is "always" about speed when the classics were actually not the case, I mean play through the first Sonic game in level 3 acts 1 through 3 and you'll know what I mean about less running more jumping.
and actually Sonic:Colors and Sonic Brotherhood were actually pretty good in my opinion... too bad I felt Brotherhood felt short and on the easy side... then again I don't think the game was made for my demographic ^^;;

Haha, of course, Robotnik would be an actual villian in this! X3 I have a lot of neat ideas for him too.
I agree with almost all of those! X3 I think they need to change the idea of speed from "just running fast", which is a big part of the problem with most 3D Sonic games I've played. And some 2D ones too. X3 I've never played Brotherhood, but I've heard lots of good things about Colors. I should try to rent it sometime!

Indeed, some of the ideas finally translated pretty well in Colors, however I think my biggest concern is the idea of being on Rails, and all the 3D Sonics feel less and less as a platformer, and a race to get to the end of the stage. Mostly talking about the earlier Sonics on the Wii, I mean some of the issues the "Fandom" spoke of like "weapons" and such actually didn't surface till that shadow game was made, even though there was "Fang" the sniper... that only appeared in the Sonic knock off of Mario Kart on the Game Gear and that arcade Sonic Fighter title. I mean some of those comments and complaints I see the Fandom make is ascetics vs. the real issues of the game mechanics.
--; ugh I swear the only good games in the Sonic Gems collection was Sonic CD, and Vectorman.
*steps off his soap box.* all just opinions.

Nah, a comic of course. X3 It'd be a ton more work to make a game, like the engine and sprites and everything (I'd picture it being 2D). I do have some unique (I think) ideas for including in a Sonic style game though. They'd all be playing off of that speed aspect I mentioned.
I need a faster way to do comics. X3 Or more free time! Both, preferably!
