Got a bunch of old Childish Harmony stories I never uploaded, some of them so old I was still using .odt files. Dumping them all now. This one shows Jamie and Snivy's relationship development and based off the following prompt:
"Look, you don't like me, and I don't like you, but-"
"Hey, I like you."
"Wait, what? Why?"
I let out a huff as I turn to my idiot partner. "Look, you don't like me, and I don't like you, but-"
"Hey, I like you," Snivy protested.
"Wait, what? Why? And since when?"
"Well, pretty much since I met you. You're always saying your weird nonsense and getting mad when I call you by name. It's hilarious!"
"How many times do I have to tell you that my name is Jamie?"
"Zero, because your name is Mudkip."
Well I guess it figures that their reason for 'liking me' would be that they just like laughing at me. "Well, whatever. What I mean is, I know we have our disagreements, but this is something I won't budge on."
"So, this giant hole in the path..."
"No, we're not going to swing over it on a vine while shouting at the top of our lungs."
"Uuuugh, fine. Lets go find another route."
"Okay look, I know you don't really like me beyond laughing at me, but-"
"Hey, that's not true!"
I raise an eyebrow. "Oh really?"
"Yeah! You're a huge help exploring dungeons, and you're getting pretty good at fighting. I really appreciate having you as a partner! Plus, it would be mind-numbingly boring without someone here to talk to."
"Oh. Well, I'm pretty glad to have your help, too. I don't know if I could get through these dungeons on my own, and even if I could, it'd take forever to get to the Gate. It's nice to have a partner."
"Heck yeah, partners 'til the end! So what were you saying before?"
"Oh yeah, could you please stop filling my sleeping bag with whoopee cushions?"
"Nope!"
I lay on the ground, catching my breath after the intense battle. "... Hey Snivy, I know we're not exactly friends, but-"
"We're not?"
"I... didn't think so? I mean, we're together because we're exploration partners, aren't we?"
"That doesn't me we aren't friends. We eat together, play together, pull pranks... and counter-pranks..." I giggle as I recall the whoopee cushion I put under Snivy's pillow. "But more than that, we like being around each other! I mean, I like being with you, at least..."
"I... I like being around you too, Snivy. You're so energetic and carefree, and you've taught me things I never would have learned on my own."
"Whoa whoa whoa, I taught YOU things? You're the one that showed me how much of a jerk I was being!.. And also not to eat random forest fruit."
"To be fair I think you would've learned that last one on your own pretty quick."
"True."
We share a laugh over the memory. "I never really thought about it, but I guess we are friends now."
"Heck yeah, you're probably the best friend I've ever had!"
"Yeah, ditto."
A brief silence falls over the dungeon corridor. "... So, what were you gonna say?"
I try to get my train of thought back on track, but I can't remember what exactly I wanted to say. Actually, I might have said everything I wanted to just now. "... Thank you, Snivy. For being my partner."
