as the larger, hairier cousins of tooth faeries, greater surgeon sprites (or "redcaps") are seldom surpassed by humans in medical skill. they are often employed by armies in need of doctors, and paid for their service with whatever gangrenous flesh is sloughed from their patients, or whichever corpses are found with wounds too gruesome to let their families see.

one such sprite, Nandag (or "Nan" as she's called), is a certified veteran of her profession, having served in countless battles over the course of some two-hundred years. her coarse demeanor and gut-wrenching gallows humor can be unnerving to some, but among dead-eyed nurses and gauze-swaddled soldiers, her joking is so commonplace as to be a comfort.
