One of my recent sculptures, an urn for a lovely dog named Kuro.
Kuro unfortunatley passed at a young age due to parvo despite being vaccinated. His family loved him very much and he is very missed.
He loved water, and though he never did get to visit the beach his owner said he would have loved it so we settled on an oceanic theme with his likeness on the lid.
This sculpture was made using a mason jar as the base and I very carefully made it so that no matter which way the lid is put on Kuro's likeness always faces the front, which was easier said than done. Real shells (All ethically sourced on one of my many trips to different beaches) were added to the urn as well as sculpted ones and a piece of fossilized coral and a real shells were used to create some of the wonderful textures by pressing them into the clay before baking.
I was incredibly nervous when it came to putting this in the oven as the glass jar makes up the structure, but it went off without a hitch.
It's difficult to see in these pictures but the urn has a very satin-y feeling pearlecent finish that looks lovely in the light.
While the reason I was making this was a sad one, I did still enjoy making it and it was an honor to be able to make something so special for Kuro and his family. I poured as much love as I could muster into this for them.
