Many years ago a furry friend and I spontaneously started an e-mail RP. A year or so into it, our characters were together in a cabin with a great forest around it. There was a steam and a ways off, a rock-muscled mountain that we city-slickers facetiously nicknamed "Wolf Mountain".
In time our nickname proved to be accurate. There were brief glimpses of gray fur moving between the leaves of the forest’s bushes and trees. We suspected that the “wolves” that we had never seen were watching us out of curiosity. We figured as the weeks went by we would never see our lupine neighbors -- which was okay. After all, it was their neighborhood before we moved in.
Then one day, a warm lazy summer’s day when the scent of pine trees was heavy on the air, there she was - a female grey wolf standing on a rise in full sight with her litter of pups around her. By her showing us her “children” it was her quiet beautiful way of saying “Welcome”.
In the story our characters called the wolf, Ember.
Thank you so very much, Corvuspointer, for bringing back a beautiful personal memory that still touches me very deeply.
