Zaan had found what he was looking for hours ago. Small reddish orange berries that grow from parasitic vines growing in the canopy. He knew he wasn't expected back till later in the evening and decided that he could take a longer break than he would normally allow himself. Upon finding a scattered ruin Zaan set his gear around a large stone block, the perfect rest stop.
He wasn't sure what kind of structure had once been here, but his curiosity had been piqued and he took a note to look into it when he had gotten back. The ruin wasn't listed on the map. Zaan took his pen and added it. The map was old and covered in notes from previous rangers and travelers. Now it had his mark.
Zaan sat in silence watching the scenery around him through his prized binoculars. All around him he could hear many things, the calls of birds, five he could identify, and three he couldn't. A waterfall roared in the distance, and it's water formed the flowing river rapids that fed into a bog where frogs and insects sang and spoke over each other. The humid air was full of the smell of wet soil and dead leaves.
After some time passed Zaan realized how much the sun had moved! He gathered his gear and made sure he hadn't dropped anything. Once assured that he had left no trace, he took off from the clearing.
