Giant Tobito backstory lore dump incoming~
--The Exiled Royal Sorcerer--
A strange black feline, part of the Nyofel species and quite gifted in the use of their powers.
He's quite a grumpy individual but has a good and caring heart, even if he does not often show it openly, but as he tends to say: Actions speak louder than words. Which easily reflects his nature towards others.
If he doesn't pound you to the ground on sight then it's safe to say he does not consider you an enemy... probably.
Tobito is hard to figure out but has a strong conviction.
It is difficult to gain his trust.
---Life amongst his kind---
Tobito used to be quite renowned for his gift with the Word's powers, he was even part of the Royal Court, being their highest Sorcerer.
Hand-selected by the God Empress herself he became her prodigenous Sorcerer, an honour amongst those who studied the Word within the academy.
As a scholar, Tobito took many glimpses into the Word itself, applying his visions and innovations on it to create wholly new applications to manifest the will of Nyofel within the Word.
His studies eventually led him down a path unguided by God Empress Felriey. If the Word was but the Nyofel's 'will and intentions' manifested to manipulate the world around them, could they force their will on Leyandea without needing a verbal component..?
Yes... yes in theory, they could.
And in praxis? Tobito focused, his efforts onto studying this part, proving his theory.. The God Empress watched on with intrigue, yet let Tobito walk this road, for it could only prove the Word as the highest power.
And yet Tobito proved his theory right. Able to move but a single object without any Word, it was enough. A big discovery. The Word was nothing but a crutch, it may assist, but it ultimately limits their true potential. A will unbound of a word to guide it.. Fascinating.
---Heretic, Exile---
Tobito's discovery, however, was not received the way he thought it would.
What was innovation, a leap forward past the 'shackles' of the Word ended in accusations of blasphemy, something that threatened to shatter the very concept and belief of the Word.
The Nyofel sorcerer did the only sensible thing: He gambled it all. He stood up for himself, his own discovery and belief that their powers are so much more than the Word. Put at odds with the God Emperor and the God Empress, this heretic was put to a trial. A duel to prove his theory, for Tobito to prove himself infront of the Word's judgement.
The God Emprerors trusted right hand man and leader of the Royal Knights, Velgyr , took his role as judge within this duel. If Tobito could beat him or just show what he was capable of without the Word, it may yet sway the Royal Court and steer the Nyofel into a grander age..
But in his pride and eagerness to prove his theory, Tobito's lack of practice earned him the loss of his right arm. Cleanly severed by Velgyr's Word of 'Cut'. His will was strong, but the Word was stronger yet, supported by Velgyr's Shard of Power, too. It was unfair.
Tobito's failure to prove his theory had the Royal Court denounced forever, strip him of his title, his royal position, declare him a heretic, an enemy to the Kingdom, the Word. Tobito was exiled for his 'betrayal', to live with the shame he brought upon himself.
The now Exile was given the decency to leave the Kingdom on his own, likely thanks to his previous standing with the God Empress, who watched on judgingly without a single word to spare for Tobito.
---Unlikely Power---
Once Tobito had left the Kingdom, he was fair game to hunt for the Nyofel, like a wild animal out on the run.
He replaced his lost arm with a makeshift clutter of rocks and stones, creating himself a golem arm after many tries to do so, attempting to not rely on the Word which he now cursed for blinding his own kind.
Tobito swore revenge. He'd one day break the opressing reign of God Emperor Vahael and the Word, leading the Nyofel civilisation into a different era. But for that he needed more control, more power.. power which he ended up stumbling across as he wandered the Realm of Earth. Or perhaps it simply revealed itself to him, but he found a Shard of Power resting within the so far undiscovered remains of the demon who was rumoured to have once shaped this realm.
It was the power he needed to set his plans in motion.. More control, more focus.. but it was not enough. More was needed, if he somehow found the remaining undiscovered Shards of Power...
This boy has a lot of lore at this point, it's amazing. And I'm really happy that after good 4 years of development he's grown on me as a character so much and is way more than the original 'oh hey, let's make a cute black mage-ish evil kitty cat' X3
Been meaning to get to this redesign for a while but only found sudden inspiration for it recently.
And wanna also say little thankies to
Faust8593 for opinions and suggestions on how to make some parts of Tobito's outfit a bit nicer. Namely Tobito's right shoulder and extra drapey cloth stuff.
Enjoy~

Aaa, it's the fresh and new design for Tobitoo, looking sharp~
Heh, it's always fun to see how a character develops over the years. With all the lore about Tobito and Leyandea you wouldn't think that it all started with such a simple premise but rawr, you can never know what direction a simple idea can take you
also agjkz, so sweet, glad I could help add a bit of mystical asymmetry to the design
