I LOVE that lion headshot, and the coloring and inking in general...it's so crisp and clean! Mind if I ask, do you ink before or after you color?

In this case (since the ink from the brushpen is not water resistant) I sketch, color over the sketch and then ink. With the badges I used to do it was the other way around but I can only do that when I use a normal brush and ink.

A fun thing to do to mess around and get a feel for a new set of markers is so sketch something out on a thin-ish piece of paper, then lay down a set of flat colors on just the pencil lines. Once you've gotten that laid out, flip the paper over, and use the colors that bled through, shade them, and ink them. It gives such a lovely pastel color that most markers normally don't :D

That's really interesting sounding, I may have to try that! Thank you for the suggestion, I'll be doodling with markers today, anyway, so I may have to play around with that during the downtime. :D

I tried one of those brush pens a few weeks ago... it wasn't pretty. My hands aren't steady enough.

It really takes a long time to get used to. Took me years, and getting used to this specific brushpen also took a bit since it's smaller and less dry and stiff than the one I normally use. And sometimes there's just days I can't ink at all!

That ferret in the chef's hat is just too cute. I love the amount of life you can give a face in just the eyes, it's very impressive :D And well done with the gryphon's spots. It's never easy to get a crisp and clean line like that with markers!

No, they're half as expensive. They're like the sketch markers (soft pointy tip on one side) but have less ink in them apparantly. (until recently I didn't even know the sketch markers existed, they don't sell them here)

Yeah, I can find the sketch markers, but I can't find the Ciao's anywhere xD
