But in the strange and fascinating chakat universe, one skunktaur needs the closeness of another to stay mentally stable. And that's the role that Doren plays here. After a long time writing this story in three books I could say that Lilethe Skunktaur and Esteban Sivem (the human) are like lifemates. Their relationship is so deep that they share emotions spontaneously. That's supposed to happen only with chakats and chakat-kin like skunktaurs, since they have a similar, different neural network than humans. But it happened! Will it be an "adaptation" of the skunktaurs that the canon talks about? Maybe. Lilethe is a Dewclaw nurse. Esteban is an engineer graduated in Terra (Earth), in the South American Union.
